HYDERABAD: State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice Shameem Akhter visited the Nalgonda district jail on Friday and conducted a thorough inspection of the facility.
During his visit, Justice Akhter inspected all barracks, the kitchen, food supplies, and meals provided to the inmates. He interacted with prisoners to understand the facilities being offered to them.
Speaking to media representatives outside the jail, Justice Akhter stated that around 177 inmates were housed at the Nalgonda district jail, including 21 women prisoners. He noted that all necessary facilities were being provided in accordance with regulations and expressed satisfaction over the quality of food and other amenities available to the prisoners. He added that no complaints had been received from the inmates.
Justice Akhter praised the jail authorities for managing the district jail efficiently and in compliance with the prescribed norms.
During the inspection, Jail Superintendent Pramod briefed the Chairman about the arrangements, facilities, and welfare initiatives undertaken for the prisoners. District Jailor Balakrishna accompanied the Superintendent during the briefing.
Earlier, at the R&B Guest House, Justice Shameem Akhter was welcomed by Nalgonda RDO Y. Ashok Reddy, Additional SP Ramesh, DSP Sivarama Reddy, and Tahsildar Srinivas, who greeted him with saplings.
Justice Akhter also inquired about paddy procurement operations, healthcare services provided through government hospitals, services rendered by welfare hostels, and other welfare programmes in the district.
