HYDERABAD: Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy has responded to the Supreme Court’s notices by filing an affidavit, asserting that he has not defected from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). He clarified that he continues to be a BRS legislator and refuted allegations of party switching.
Mahipal Reddy stated that his recent meeting with the Chief Minister was purely a courtesy visit and should not be misinterpreted as political defection. He argued that the disqualification petition filed against him was based solely on media reports, without any substantial evidence.
The affidavit comes in response to a petition filed by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), which seeks his disqualification as an MLA. In his plea, Mahipal Reddy urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition, stating that it lacks merit and is politically motivated.
The case continues to be a key legal battle, with implications for party defections and political stability in Telangana. The Supreme Court is yet to announce its final decision on the matter.
