Hyderabad: A tenth-grade student at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Nadigudem, Suryapet district, was found dead by suicide inside the school hostel, marking the second student suicide reported in Telangana’s government residential schools in 24 hours.
Tanuja, a native of Kalakova village in Munagala mandal, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room using a chunni. Fellow students alerted the school staff after noticing her absence, prompting them to inform local police.
According to school officials, Tanuja’s father had visited her at the hostel on Monday evening. Less than a day later, the student took her own life.
The incident follows a similar case in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, where a student of the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul in Toopranpet, Choutuppal mandal, died by suicide after jumping from the hostel building.
Police have launched inquiries into both deaths.
