Hyderabad: The Supreme Court upheld the election of Asifabad MLA Kova Lakshmi, rejecting a petition filed by her Congress rival Ajmeera Shyam Naik over alleged false information in her 2023 Assembly election affidavit.
A bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath dismissed the plea on Thursday, confirming earlier findings of the Telangana High Court. The ruling ended months of litigation that began after Naik accused Lakshmi of misrepresenting details in her poll documents.
Naik initially approached the High Court, which ruled in Lakshmi’s favour. He then challenged that order before the Supreme Court, but the apex bench concluded there was no merit in his claims.

The case revolved around Naik’s contention that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi legislator’s affidavit contained inaccuracies. Both the High Court and the Supreme Court found the allegations unsubstantiated, allowing Lakshmi to retain her seat.
