Supreme court hears lawyer couple murder case; CBI expresses readiness to investigate
Hyderabad, February 11: The Supreme Court on Monday heard the case related to the brutal murder of lawyer couple Gattu Vaman Rao and Nagamani in Telangana. During the hearing, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed the court that it had no objection to taking over the investigation if directed by the court.
The Telangana government, which had earlier expressed its willingness to transfer the case to the CBI, reiterated its stance before the bench. Meanwhile, lawyers representing Putta Madhu, one of the accused, argued that baseless allegations were made against him and requested the court to quash the charges.
On the other hand, counsel representing Kishan Rao, who is seeking justice for the victims, pointed out that the murder was committed in broad daylight and recorded on video, which was widely broadcast on television channels. He questioned what additional evidence was needed beyond the widely available footage.
A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Rajesh Bindal adjourned the case for further hearing in two weeks.
