HYDERABAD: A central empowered committee constituted by the Supreme Court to review environmental and forest matters inspected the controversial land near Kancha Gachibowli, close to the University of Hyderabad (HCU), which has been the centre of a major row.
Committee Chairman Siddhanta Das, along with members C.P. Goyal, Sunil Limaye, and J.R. Bhatt, arrived in Hyderabad last night and examined the land falling under Survey Number 24 earlier today.
However, students were not allowed to meet the committee during the inspection. The panel remained at the HCU campus for about an hour before proceeding to the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute in Jubilee Hills.
Sources indicate that the committee suggested that five student representatives may come forward to share their views at the institute. The committee is also expected to hear from organisations and NGOs tomorrow that have raised objections regarding alleged violations of environmental laws.
