Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the appointments of Telangana Jana Samithi chief M. Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan as MLCs under the governor’s quota.
The bench delivered the order while hearing petitions filed by BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan and Satyanarayana, who had challenged the nominations. The court held that the appointments violated its earlier interim directions, which required compliance with subsequent orders before proceeding.
Supreme Court stays Telangana governor quota MLC appointments
The court modified its previous interim order, stating that the swearing-in of the two nominees after the issuance of the interim directions was not permissible. It said the appointments would remain on hold until further orders.
Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan had been nominated under the governor’s quota earlier this year. The petitioners argued that the nominations were irregular and sought the court’s intervention to set them aside.
With the latest ruling, the two leaders are barred from functioning as MLCs until the Supreme Court issues a final verdict in the case.
