Hyderabad: Unidentified burglars looted 18 kg of gold from a jewellery store in Suryapet town by drilling through a wall and breaking the rear shutter late night. The break-in took place at Sai Santoshi Jewellers, with the gang fleeing the scene undetected.
According to police, the thieves accessed the shop by creating an entry through the wall and a second breach through the shutter at the back. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
The heist has intensified public alarm in Suryapet, where thefts have surged in recent months. Police say burglars are conducting daytime recces and targeting locked homes at night. Some gangs have even struck during daylight hours, walking away with valuables in broad view.
One recent case involved a dramatic ATM robbery in Huzurnagar, where two men arrived in a Fortuner, cut through an SBI ATM with gas cutters, looted the cash, and fled. CCTV footage shows one man cutting the machine while the other monitored the area from behind a lowered shutter. The operation took just 15 minutes.
Before leaving, the thieves set the ATM room on fire. Police said ₹20 lakh in cash had been loaded into the machine two days prior. Though arrests were made, the incident remains a flashpoint in the district.
With a spate of robberies, including house break-ins and ATM thefts, residents across Suryapet are growing increasingly anxious.
