Hyderabad: Heavy rain in upstream Chhattisgarh and parts of Telangana has triggered massive inflows into the Taliperu medium irrigation project in Charla mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
On Wednesday, authorities lifted all 15 gates of the reservoir to release 28,000 cusecs of floodwater into the Godavari river.
Rapid inflows were recorded following swelling in feeder streams Chinta vagu, Pagidi vagu, Rotentha vagu, and Ralla vagu all of which surged simultaneously.
The downstream low-level Chapta area near Thegada has been submerged due to the discharge from Taliperu. Flood monitoring is ongoing under the supervision of AE Sampath.
Rising waters in Eethavagu stream have inundated sections of the local road, disrupting transport in the area.
In Ramachandrapuram, Battinapalli, and Battigudem villages, multiple streams have overflowed, cutting access and raising alert levels.
