HYDERABAD, February 1: TPCC General Secretary Addanki Dayakar has criticised the BJP government, alleging that it has transformed the nation from a welfare state into a tax-centric regime. In a video released on Twitter, Dayakar expressed his disapproval of the Union Budget 2025-26 presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday.
He remarked that the BJP’s portrayal of rescuing the nation by converting it into a tax state is laughable. Dayakar highlighted that bringing up issues concerning the two to three crore individuals who pay income tax and boasting about significant changes through tax exemptions is shameful. He criticised the government’s inability to reduce petrol and diesel prices, despite claims of steering the country towards a major economy. Furthermore, he pointed out that while the government claims to prioritise agriculture, the budget allocation for this sector doesn’t even match that of the Home Ministry, raising questions about their commitment.
Dayakar accused the central government of crafting the budget to favour corporate powers and using it as a propaganda tool, which he deemed disgraceful. He expressed concern that by bringing the country’s 145 crore population under the tax net and handing over public wealth to private corporate powers, the government is attempting to mislead the public. He also criticised the lack of a plan to address the anticipated major economic downturn in 2025, as predicted by social scientists. Dayakar noted that while per capita income and purchasing power are declining, highlighting tax exemptions for a select few is inappropriate. He suggested that the central government should now focus on public development.
