Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress-led state government of neglecting Valmiki-Boyar communities, despite their recognised status under the Backward Classes category.
Speaking at the BJP headquarters during Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti celebrations, Rao paid floral tributes to the saint-poet and praised his teachings on truth, justice, and morality. The programme was organised by the party’s SC Morcha.
Valmiki-Boyar issues ignored by state officials
Rao alleged that the Congress government had completely ignored the rights and welfare of the Valmiki-Boyar communities. He cited a recent case from Gadwal, where two brothers from the community were reportedly denied caste certificates by local revenue officials. He called the denial “unjust” and demanded immediate redress.
“The government must resolve these issues without delay and uphold the legal entitlements of Valmiki-Boyar people,” Rao said.
Hostels, Gurukuls in crisis due to unpaid dues
The BJP leader also attacked the Congress for claiming to champion the welfare of BC, SC, and ST communities. He said the reality was far from their promises, with state-run hostels and Gurukul schools in dire condition.
He pointed out that over 6.7 lakh students currently study in Gurukul institutions across Telangana. However, many facilities reportedly lack adequate food and infrastructure. He said most SC, ST, and BC hostels operate from rented buildings, with several landlords having locked premises due to unpaid rent.
“The government must release adequate funds immediately to ensure safe buildings, basic facilities, and food in these institutions,” Rao demanded.
BJP State General Secretary Vemula Ashok, SC Morcha National Secretary S. Kumar, and SC Morcha State President Kanthikiran also attended the event.
