Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday announced ex gratia of ₹5 lakh each to the families of six victims who died in the Ramanthapur electrocution tragedy during the Sri Krishnashtami procession. The state also assured that medical expenses of the injured would be borne fully by the government.
Minister D Sridhar Babu made the announcement and personally met the bereaved families, promising support. He expressed deep condolences and described the incident as “a most unfortunate tragedy” that occurred just 100 metres before the end of the procession. Officials have attributed the mishap to live current passing through a cable wire that came in contact with the chariot.
Telangana orders inquiry, GHMC cable wire drive
Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad District Collector had been directed to conduct a full inquiry into the Ramanthapur electrocution tragedy and submit a report, after which further action would be taken. He also ordered a special drive across Greater Hyderabad to inspect and remove unsafe overhead cable and power wires, citing the high risk of accidents when they run together.
