Hyderabad: As part of Operation Muskaan, Telangana Police rescued 7,678 children across the state in July, returning them to their families or placing them in care homes.
Women Safety Wing DG Charu Sinha said the month-long operation, conducted from July 1 to 31, was jointly led by the Police Department, Child Welfare, Labour, Education, Revenue, and Child Protection departments.
Among the rescued were 7,149 boys and 529 girls. A total of 3,783 children were from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, while four were from Nepal.
Of those rescued:
- 6,718 were found working as child labourers
- 357 were identified as street children
- 42 were engaged in begging
- 1,049 were moved to rescue homes
Police registered 1,713 cases and arrested 1,718 individuals linked to child exploitation.

Charu Sinha noted that the operation was aimed at removing children from unsafe, exploitative conditions and ensuring their rehabilitation through inter-agency coordination.
