Hyderabad: The Telangana government has sanctioned ₹85 lakh in ex-gratia compensation to the families of 17 victims, including eight children, who died in a major fire accident near Gulzar Houz in Charminar on May 18.
The amount has been released from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, as confirmed in an official memo issued Thursday by the Revenue Department. A cheque has been handed over to the Hyderabad District Collector for immediate disbursement to the bereaved families.
The fire, which gutted a residential building housing members of a single extended family, is among the deadliest such incidents in Hyderabad in recent years.
According to the memo, the district collector has been directed to oversee distribution and submit a compliance report to the state government. Officials stated that further support for survivors and dependents of the deceased is under consideration.
The relief measure is part of the state’s broader rehabilitation plan following the fire tragedy at Gulzar Houz.
