Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast above-normal rainfall for Telangana this year, citing an early onset of the southwest monsoon in the state’s Mahbubnagar district.
According to officials, the monsoon arrived 12 to 13 days ahead of schedule in parts of Telangana, raising hopes for a wetter-than-usual season. “This early entry is similar to what was observed in 2020, which also turned out to be a year of heavy rainfall,” they said.
Last year’s rainfall was closer to the seasonal average, but this year is expected to surpass the norm, driven by favourable monsoonal conditions.
Officials added that such early arrival often correlates with an extended and more intense rainy season, particularly benefiting the agricultural sector.
