Hyderabad: ACB raids are sending shockwaves through Telangana’s police force. In the last four months alone, 14 police officials from home guards to DSPs have been caught red-handed accepting bribes. The anti-corruption bureau has been targeting settlement mafias, land dispute brokers, and sand racketeers, many with police backing.
Despite holding key posts in law and order, these officers have been accused of exploiting their positions for personal gain. Caught under surveillance, most are now under suspension. Sources say lobbying has already begun for reappointments to their vacant posts.
Several officers demanded hefty bribes in civil disputes, land matters, and illegal sand dealings. ACB teams intercepted multiple transactions, some involving lakhs. Victims of extortion are stepping forward, giving the bureau strong leads.
Here’s who got caught:
May 12: K. Parthasarathi, DSP, Suryapet – demanded ₹25 lakh
May 12: P. Veeraghavulu, CI, Suryapet – demanded ₹25 lakh
April 28: P. Parashuram, SI, Shameerpet – caught with ₹22,000
April 21: Soma Satish Kumar, SHO, Manuguru – ₹1 lakh
April 18: Nelki Sugunakar, SI, Naspur – ₹30,000
April 10: Barupathi Ramesh, SHO, Bhadrachalam Town – ₹20,000
March 5: Shankar, SI, Korutla – ₹5,000
Feb 18: Chandrashekar, SHO, Makthal – ₹40,000
Jan 6: Jagadeesh, SHO, Thorrur – ₹2 lakh
In the most recent case, DSP and CI from Suryapet were nabbed together on May 12 for jointly demanding ₹25 lakh raising alarms at higher levels of the department.
The ACB is said to be monitoring more officers suspected of similar conduct. As crackdowns intensify, the state police face a credibility crisis, especially in regions where officials have become enmeshed in local dispute rackets.
