Telangana appoints Lt Gen Harpal Singh to lead tunnel works and resolve engineering hurdles
Lt Gen Singh, who retired as Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army, has now joined the state’s irrigation team. He will advise the Irrigation and Command Area Development (CAD) Department. The appointment comes at a time when the department is undergoing a major revamp under Minister Capt N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The government said his advice will help improve planning, boost construction speed, and ensure safety. He has managed landmark infrastructure works such as the Atal Tunnel, Theing Tunnel, and the Sela and Nechiphu Tunnels in tough Himalayan terrain.
With over 40 years in military engineering, Lt Gen Singh brings deep experience in tunnel projects. He has trained in infrastructure development in the U.S. and holds leadership roles in several engineering bodies.
