Hyderabad: The Telangana government has rolled out a new set of guidelines for granting fresh permits to LPG, CNG, and electric autorickshaws within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area, with a specific focus on helping low-income families living inside Hyderabad’s city limits.
Transport Commissioner Surendra Mohan announced the move on Sunday, releasing an official order that lays out the terms and conditions for the permits. The initiative aims to support economically weaker sections living within the ORR by allowing them to own and operate new autos.
Applicants can purchase vehicles from any authorised dealer in the state. To qualify, individuals must submit valid proof of residence within the ORR. Only one auto permit will be granted per person. Anyone who already owns an autorickshaw under their name will be deemed ineligible. As part of the application process, individuals must submit an affidavit through the dealer confirming they don’t already own a registered autorickshaw.
Permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. After receiving approval, applicants will have 60 days to register the vehicle with the transport department. Failure to do so will lead to automatic cancellation of the permit.
Dealer-uploaded application details will be routed to the respective RTA office online. Transport officials will review and either approve or reject the application within 24 hours.
The government has warned dealers against overpricing, charging processing fees, black marketing, blocking bookings, or collecting registration charges unlawfully. Violations will lead to strict action, the department said.
