Hyderabad: Telangana MP and BC leader R Krishnaiah announced a statewide bandh on October 14 to protest the Telangana High Court’s stay on 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections.
R Krishnaiah urges parties to support Telangana bandh
Krishnaiah urged all political parties to back the Telangana bandh. He said the protest would expose the state government’s failure to protect BC reservations.
The MP met Union Minister Kishan Reddy in Hyderabad on Saturday and directly sought BJP’s support.
After the meeting, Krishnaiah told reporters that BC associations across the state would join the bandh. He appealed to every organisation and citizen to take part and ensure its success.
He said Kishan Reddy assured him that the BJP would discuss the issue within the party before deciding. Krishnaiah questioned why the court intervened after the Election Commission had already issued the schedule.
He added that BC organisations had already organised large roundtable meetings, protests, and dharnas across Telangana. He said these protests would continue until the state restored the 42% BC quota in local polls.
