HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress Backward Classes (BC) legislators are set to travel to Delhi today to participate in a significant protest demanding the implementation of BC reservations.
The demonstration, being organised at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Wednesday, is being led by 12 BC welfare organisations to press for the inclusion of recently passed Telangana Assembly bills into the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. These two bills, passed in the state legislature, provide 42% reservations for BCs in education, government employment, and local body elections.
The protest has drawn broad political support. Leaders from various parties, including the Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Left parties, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have been invited to join the demonstration.
In preparation, Telangana ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Konda Surekha, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Government Whip Aadi Srinivas, and MLAs Beerla Ilaiah, Makkan Singh Raj Thakur, Vakiti Srihari, and Eerlapalli Shankarayya will depart for Delhi today.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is also scheduled to travel to the national capital tomorrow to lend his support to the protest. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders are also expected to be present at the event.
