HYDERABAD: Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to social justice, highlighting the significance of the BC Reservations Bill introduced in the Assembly. He recalled that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, strongly advocated for a nationwide caste census and has raised this issue in multiple states.
Prabhakar stressed that the caste survey should serve as a guiding model for the nation. “With over one lakh personnel, we conducted a detailed caste survey, and now we have presented the bill in the Assembly,” he stated. He urged all parties to unanimously support the bill to ensure its successful implementation.
Drawing a comparison with Tamil Nadu, which has 69% reservations, Prabhakar emphasized that Telangana is also taking bold steps toward increasing social justice. He mentioned that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has already announced plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek the central government’s approval for the bill.
“Our next step is to take this legislation to Delhi and meet the Prime Minister,” he said, calling the bill a “historic decision.” Prabhakar urged all parties to come together and fight for its inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, ensuring its legal protection.
