Hyderabad: The Telangana cabinet will meet at the Secretariat on Monday at 11 a.m. under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The meeting is expected to focus primarily on the Banakacharla project amid ongoing tensions with Andhra Pradesh.
With the opposition accusing the state government of failing to respond to developments related to the Godavari–Banakacharla project, the agenda has taken added significance. Official sources indicated that the project would be the central issue in the meeting.
Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy is expected to present detailed inputs on the Andhra Pradesh government’s pre-feasibility report submitted to the Central Water Commission (CWC). The report includes project scope, cost estimates, and water utilisation plans.
The Telangana government, which has already objected to the project, had earlier raised the issue with Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Paatil. The state is likely to reiterate its concerns during the cabinet discussion.
If the CWC proceeds to clear the DPR unilaterally, legal countermeasures and strategic options are expected to be discussed. The cabinet may finalise its course of action to challenge any such approval.
Discussions are also likely on the timing and conduct of local body elections across the state.
