Hyderabad: The Telangana cabinet on Saturday nominated Professor Kodandaram and former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin for the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota. Their names have been sent to the Governor for approval.
The decision followed a recent Supreme Court order, which required the state to resubmit nominations for the posts. While the Congress government retained Kodandaram, it dropped Aamir Ali Khan and nominated Azharuddin in his place.
Kodandaram Azharuddin MLC nomination sparks political buzz
The earlier nominations had faced legal hurdles after BRS leaders Dasoju Shravan and Satyanarayana challenged them in the Supreme Court. The court issued a stay on the appointments of Kodandaram and Aamir Ali Khan, forcing the government to act again.
Azharuddin’s inclusion has generated interest in political circles. He has been preparing to contest as the Congress candidate from Jubilee Hills in the upcoming by-election. His MLC nomination has now raised questions over who will represent the party in the Assembly bypoll.
