Hyderabad: Telangana will continue to prioritise journalist welfare, said Special Commissioner for Information and Public Relations C. H. Priyanka on Thursday. Speaking at the valedictory of a media training session at the Media Academy in Nampally, she said the government stands firmly behind the academy in safeguarding journalists’ interests.
Praising the role of journalists in relaying public matters back to the people, she urged reporters to present information truthfully and without distortion. She said flaws in the existing journalist insurance scheme would be addressed, and corrective measures would be taken to ensure its effective implementation.
Media Academy chairman Srinivas Reddy said ₹1 lakh each had recently been disbursed to 180 journalists rendered unable to work due to accidents. Families of deceased journalists are currently receiving pensions of ₹3,000 per month. The academy is also conducting targeted training sessions for editors and women journalists, he added.
