Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee directed all district units to send 25 participants each to join the BC quota protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 6, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and PCC chief A. Mahesh Kumar Goud.
The protest seeks Presidential assent for the Assembly-passed bills granting 42% reservation to Backward Classes in the state legislature. A special train carrying the delegation will depart from Charlapalli railway station at 9 am on Monday, according to a PCC statement issued Sunday.
AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and Goud will accompany the delegation until Nagpur. Congress MPs will press for a discussion in Parliament on BC reservation enhancement on August 5 as part of a three-day agitation campaign.
PCC said a massive dharna will be held at Jantar Mantar on August 6. The next day, a delegation will submit a formal memorandum to the President, urging approval of the reservation bills.
In a parallel move, PCC vice president Sangishetty Jagadeesh said the party passed a resolution at the workers’ wing’s extended meeting in Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, calling for resistance against the BJP government’s “anti-labour policies.”
