Hyderabad: With heavy rainfall predicted across Telangana over the coming days, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Thursday held a teleconference with District Collectors to assess district-level preparedness and mitigate the impact on agricultural operations and public infrastructure.
The meeting focused on pre-monsoon agricultural planning and the ongoing paddy procurement. Officials were instructed to strictly implement standard procedures to prevent damage to harvested paddy, especially during unseasonal rains.
Special Chief Secretary for Revenue (Disaster Management) Arvind Kumar briefed the Collectors about weather conditions arising from low-pressure systems in both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. He warned that all districts are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall for the next ten days.
Ramakrishna Rao directed Collectors to take all necessary measures to ensure paddy procurement proceeds uninterrupted and that produce remains protected. He also urged timely and adequate distribution of agricultural inputs, confirming that sufficient stocks of DAP, complex fertilisers, and seeds are available in the state.
Emphasising the need to curb the sale of spurious cotton seeds, the Chief Secretary instructed Collectors to immediately convene task force meetings and deliver a strong message against such illegal activity. Public communication was also stressed, with officials asked to conduct press conferences alongside district ministers to keep citizens informed of government efforts and safety precautions.
In urban areas, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been tasked with ensuring all manholes and open nalas are secured and that measures are in place to prevent traffic disruptions due to waterlogging.
DG Fire Services Nagi Reddy informed that specialised training is being provided to officers to enhance response capabilities, while special teams have been positioned along the Krishna and Godavari rivers, both prone to past flooding.
Top officials including Civil Supplies Principal Secretary D.S. Chauhan, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, Agriculture Director Gopi, and HMWSSB MD Ashok Reddy attended the review.
