Hyderabad: Senior citizens in Telangana might finally get some long-overdue breathing room. The state government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is gearing up to roll out day-care centres for the elderly – one in every district.
This isn’t just a token gesture. It’s aimed squarely at the lonely, the sick, the ones stuck at home with no one to talk to. Officials say the centres will offer indoor games, yoga, books, storytelling sessions – maybe even a bit of meditation. Not hospitals, not old-age homes. Just a place to hang out, feel seen, and pass the time without staring at a wall.
Government figures put the elderly population in Telangana at around 10 lakh. That’s the scale they’re working with. The new centres are expected to ease the mental and emotional strain on many of them – especially those living alone or grappling with age-related illnesses.
Early reactions from senior citizens? Mostly smiles and nods. Relief, even.
