Hyderabad: Dr. Soumya Mishra, IPS, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Telangana, inspected the newly built district jails at Siddipet and Karimnagar on Saturday. Her visit focused on assessing infrastructure, security measures, and inmate welfare systems.
At Siddipet, Dr. Mishra personally examined facilities including the administration block, hospital, meditation hall, high-security and general barracks, and kitchen. She confirmed that construction has concluded and the jail is ready for inauguration. The facility includes modern medical care and rehabilitation infrastructure to support reformation.
IG Prisons N. Murali Babu, DIG M. Sampath, Central Prison Sangareddy Superintendent T. Kalasagar, and local officials accompanied her during the visit.
Later in the day, Dr. Mishra proceeded to Karimnagar District Jail. Here, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) extended significant support through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. She applauded IOCL’s decade-long collaboration with the department, especially its role in setting up petrol bunks that provide jobs to former inmates.
As part of its latest initiative, IOCL donated a Tata Winger vehicle, 10 desktop computers, a xerox machine, and an agarbathi-making unit. The unit will convert used flowers from Sri Vemulawada Raja Rajeswari Temple into incense sticks. This “waste-to-wealth” model not only reduces waste but also creates sustainable employment for inmates.
Dr. Mishra expressed deep appreciation for IOCL’s continued involvement, describing it as a meaningful investment in rehabilitation. She reiterated the department’s goal of empowering prisoners with skills that support their reintegration into society.
IOCL officials stated that prisoner reform is a vital component of their community development strategy. They assured continued support for similar initiatives in future.
The event was attended by DIG M. Sampath, Karimnagar Jail Superintendent Vijaya Deni, IOCL representatives, jail staff, and media personnel.
