Hyderabad: Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy warned that strict disciplinary action would follow if any police officer misused power or engaged in corruption. He directed all ranks, from home guards to senior officers, to stand by victims and ensure that every citizen trusts the police to deliver justice.
DGP issues nine-point directive to officers
In a detailed circular sent to IPS officers, Commissioners, SPs, DSPs, and Additional SPs, Shivadhar Reddy outlined nine directives to strengthen professional policing across the state. The letter, which recently surfaced, emphasised that officers must never interfere in civil disputes or act as mediators under any circumstances.
He warned that any officer involved in such acts or corrupt practices would face immediate punishment. Moreover, he reminded the force that police stations should function as centres of justice, not as compromise points for private settlements. Every FIR, call, and investigation, he said, must reflect fairness, empathy, and accountability.
“Fair policing builds public trust”
Reddy said citizens begin to trust the police when officers act with compassion and urgency. Therefore, he urged all personnel to listen carefully to victims, respond promptly, and deliver justice transparently. “People never forget those who help them in distress,” he said.
He added that police officers must perform their duties with commitment and integrity at every level. According to him, the uniform represents honour, discipline, and service to the nation. However, he cautioned that those who misuse authority or accept bribes destroy that honour and weaken public faith in policing.
Call for professional and people-friendly policing
Reddy said professional, fair, and friendly policing must define Telangana’s law enforcement model. He instructed officers to uphold equality before the law and remove both fear and bias from their approach. In addition, he advised the force to maintain transparency in every public interaction.
“Let us make Telangana a state known for justice, discipline, and citizen-friendly policing,” he wrote. “Our conduct should enhance the honor of the uniform, the reputation of the government, and peace in society.”
