Hyderabad: The Telangana government will resume rice distribution to ration card holders in September, including those with newly issued or updated cards. Beneficiaries can collect their quota from ration shops starting September 1, with stocks moving to shops on August 20.
Officials reported that the joint district now holds 11,25,290 active ration cards, covering 34,05,671 members. They will receive 20,434 tonnes of rice next month. This will be the first supply since June, when authorities gave a three-month quota in advance to guard against disruptions from natural disasters. No rice went to beneficiaries in July and August.

Under the Dynamic Key Register system, authorities recalculate quotas every month based on card and membership changes. From May 25 to August 9, officials issued 96,060 new ration cards in the joint district, increasing demand. The central government released its NFSA quota, and the state will finalise its share shortly.
For a decade, the BRS government did not issue new ration cards, which limited eligibility for several welfare schemes. After taking office, the Congress government collected applications through MeeSeva centres and gram sabhas under the Praja Palana programme. Revenue officers screened applications and began issuing cards in February 2025.
By May 25, the district count stood at 10,29,230 cards. Authorities supplied all these holders with a three-month rice quota in June. Since then, the rise in card numbers has led to a larger September allocation.
