Hyderabad: The election code came into effect across Telangana, excluding GHMC, after authorities released the local body election schedule. The code will remain in force until the poll process ends.
Police and enforcement wings began statewide inspections. Officers directed people carrying cash, jewellery or valuables to keep valid receipts. The rules bar individuals from carrying more than ₹50,000 in cash during the election period. Anyone moving higher amounts must show supporting documents. Otherwise, officials will seize the money.
Authorities said they would inform IT and GST officials about larger cash seizures and deposit those sums in court. They will hand over smaller amounts to revenue officers. Officials urged the public and elected representatives to follow the election rules without exception.
Election cash limit Telangana: strict checks underway
Officials clarified that large amounts of cash carried for medical needs, college fees, business dealings or weddings must be backed by proof. They advised people to carry passbooks or ATM slips for bank withdrawals. Traders should keep bills for goods or grain sales. Property sellers must show documents for land transactions. If individuals present valid papers, authorities will return seized money.
