On Sunday night, a similar mishap took place in Ramanthapur’s Gokhalenagar during Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations. A special chariot was prepared for the procession and taken out by devotees despite the rain. As it neared the Yadava Sangham building, the jeep pulling it broke down about 100 feet away. Devotees pushed it manually, but when it was just 50 feet from the building, the chariot struck a live overhead wire.
Those pushing from behind collapsed immediately. Five people died on the spot, while four others were rushed to hospitals in critical condition. Eyewitnesses said locals tried to revive the victims with CPR but failed. Police registered a case and are investigating the incident.
