Hyderabad: In a move to address structural concerns, the Telangana government has formed an expert committee to inspect and oversee repairs on the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages critical links in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
The panel, announced through official orders this week, will be led by A.B. Pandya, former chairman of the Central Water Commission, who brings decades of experience in hydraulic engineering and large-scale irrigation systems.
The seven-member committee includes Engineer-in-Chief (General) Anil Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief (O\&M) Srinivas, CWC Director Prashant Chandra, Chief Engineer of Ramagundam, and retired Chief Engineer Satyanarayana. Hydraulic expert Satish and geotechnical specialist Ramana Murthy round out the team, with one more member to be named.
Their primary task is to implement the findings and suggestions put forth by the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) in Pune. This includes conducting structural evaluations and technical diagnostics on all three barrages to gauge the scale of necessary repairs.
The decision follows rising alarms over the structural integrity of the barrages, which serve as cornerstones of the Kaleshwaram project one of the most ambitious irrigation efforts in the country.
