Hyderabad: The Telangana government announced free electricity for Ganesh and Durga pandals during Vinayaka Chaviti and Dasara celebrations across the state. The move will benefit thousands of festival committees.
The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) released official orders to implement the scheme. The facility will cover Vinayaka Navaratri from August 27 to September 6 and Durga Navaratri from September 29 to October 12. However, only organisers with prior approval will qualify.

At the same time, state police issued guidelines to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations. Organising bodies must apply online through the police portal and secure clearance from TGSPDCL. In addition, they must hire licensed professionals for pandal installations.
Police also set clear restrictions. They directed that roads should remain open for traffic and loudspeakers must be turned off after 10 p.m. Furthermore, sound levels must remain within prescribed limits. Organisers must install CCTV cameras and fire safety equipment at every pandal. Authorities completely banned DJs.
Hyderabad South Zone DCP Sneha Mehra held a coordination meeting with Ganesh festival organisers. She assured tight security from idol installation to immersion. Moreover, she warned of strict action against fireworks, DJs, or provocative acts. She urged devotees to cooperate with police, celebrate peacefully, and complete immersion processions quickly.
