Hyderabad: Telangana released ₹375 crore for the Musi Riverfront Development Project for FY 2024–25. The finance department issued orders on Saturday. The move signals the government’s first step to clean and rejuvenate the river.
Officials said teams had already cleared encroachments up to the Sangam stretch. Cleanup crews are removing accumulated waste from the channel. The fresh funds will speed up these activities.
Musi Riverfront Development to build global-standard amenities
The project plan includes roads on both banks. It also proposes world-class urban infrastructure along the corridor. Engineers designed an interceptor channel network to separate stormwater from sewage. This aims to stop direct discharge into the river.
Separately, the Asian Development Bank gave in-principle approval for a ₹4,100 crore loan for Musi beautification. During a recent visit, an ADB team reviewed plans with the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited. Officials outlined environmental works alongside river cleanup. The loan track, they said, clears the way for phased releases tied to milestones.
With Saturday’s state allocation, departments expect works to gain momentum on priority reaches. Further tenders and execution packages are likely to follow.
