Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said the state should set an example for the rest of the country in the power sector, with the government pursuing a structured strategy to achieve that goal.
He made the remarks at Praja Bhavan while announcing a 1.944 percent hike in Dearness Allowance for employees and pensioners of the power department. The revision will apply retrospectively from January, raising the DA from 14.074 percent to 16.018 percent.
According to Bhatti, the decision will impact 71,417 personnel including artisans, with an estimated monthly financial impact of Rs 11.193 crore on the state’s power utilities. He said the welfare of employees remains central to the government’s agenda.
He pointed to the rising electricity demand in Telangana, noting that peak load rose from 15,000 MW in March 2023 to 17,162 MW in March 2025. He said this increase was managed without interruption to power supply, crediting coordination between the government and employees.
Citing projections from a central agency, Bhatti said Telangana’s peak power requirement is expected to hit 26,299 MW by 2029–30 and 33,773 MW by 2034–35. He said planning is already underway to ramp up generation capacity to meet future needs.
The Deputy CM also highlighted the state’s new Green Energy Policy–2025, which targets 20,000 MW of renewable power generation by the end of the decade. He said the workforce must be prepared to handle future demands and called the state’s power sector an “ideal family” of employees and government.
The event was attended by TRANSCO CMD Krishna Bhaskar and representatives of various engineers and employee associations.
