Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall in several Telangana districts from August 13 to 16 due to a likely low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal. Officials warned that Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Nalgonda, Mahabubabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy and Medak could see intense downpours during this period.
Forecast for August 12 and 13
For Monday and Tuesday, the IMD predicted heavy rain in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Medchal Malkajgiri. Other parts of Telangana may receive light to moderate showers. The department advised residents in affected districts to take precautions against waterlogging, flash floods and possible disruption to transport services.
Rainfall recorded on Sunday
Akkapur in Nirmal district received 11.05 cm of rain, Phanigiri in Suryapet recorded 8.93 cm, Ichoda in Adilabad saw 7.28 cm and Duggondi in Warangal logged 6.70 cm. Heavy showers also hit Hyderabad, Narayanpet, Rajanna Sircilla, Kamareddy, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Sangareddy districts. Farmers in rain-fed areas of Telangana welcomed the showers, which could aid late sowing of crops, though officials warned of potential crop damage in low-lying fields.
