HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has deferred the hearing on the anticipatory bail petition filed by former Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) chief, Prabhakar Rao, in connection with the phone tapping case. The court has scheduled the next hearing for two weeks later, following the government’s request for additional time to respond.
Prabhakar Rao, designated as Accused No. 1 in the case, sought anticipatory bail, citing serious health issues, including cancer and lung infections, which necessitated his travel to the United States for treatment. In his petition, he emphasized that he had left for medical reasons before being implicated in the case and argued that there is no direct evidence against him. Consequently, he requested the court to grant him anticipatory bail.
During the hearing, the prosecution requested more time to file a detailed counter-affidavit. Acknowledging this request, the High Court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
The phone tapping case has garnered significant attention in Telangana’s political circles. Both Prabhakar Rao and co-accused Shravan Rao are currently abroad, leading to the issuance of Red Corner Notices against them. Prabhakar Rao’s approach to the High Court for bail has added a new dimension to the ongoing legal proceedings, with observers keenly awaiting the court’s forthcoming decisions.
