Hyderabad: In a major ruling, the Telangana High Court on Tuesday cancelled the Group-1 merit list and ordered the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) to re-evaluate all answer sheets. The court gave the commission eight months to complete the re-evaluation and publish new results.
If re-evaluation is not possible, the court directed TGPSC to conduct the Group-1 mains exam once again.
High Court finds flaws in Group-1 evaluation process
Justice Namavarapu Rajeswara Rao passed the order after hearing petitions from candidates who raised serious concerns about the marking process. The Group-1 mains took place in October 2023, and results were declared in April this year. Soon after, many candidates approached the court, citing irregularities such as uneven scoring and unclear shortlisting criteria.
Agreeing with the petitioners, the court set aside the published merit list and issued fresh instructions to TGPSC.
Court verdict causes uncertainty for shortlisted candidates
The decision has created confusion among those already shortlisted. TGPSC had already verified their certificates, and final appointments were pending. On the other hand, candidates who had filed the petitions welcomed the judgment.
TGPSC may appeal the judgment
TGPSC is now reviewing the court’s order. Sources said the commission is considering legal options, including filing an appeal.
