Hyderabad, January 28: The Telangana High Court has provided interim relief to BRS leader and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao in a phone tapping case. The court has directed that Rao should not be arrested until February 5. Harish Rao had filed a petition seeking to quash the FIR registered against him at Panjagutta Police Station. The Public Prosecutor informed the court that arguments would be presented on February 5.
Previously, Congress leader G. Chakradhar Goud lodged a complaint at Panjagutta Police Station, alleging that Harish Rao was involved in tapping his phone. Goud claimed that, with the assistance of the Intelligence Department, Rao had intercepted the phone communications of both him and his family members. He expressed suspicion that Harish Rao, during his tenure as a minister in the BRS government, was behind this activity. Based on this complaint, a case was registered, naming Harish Rao as Accused No. 1 and former Task Force DCP Radhakishan as Accused No. 2. In response, Harish Rao approached the High Court, seeking to quash the FIR, arguing that the case was filed with political vendetta and that an arrest would harm his political career and reputation.
The High Court’s directive provides temporary relief to Harish Rao, ensuring that no arrest will be made until the next hearing scheduled for February 5. The court will hear further arguments on that date.
