HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has issued a temporary order directing the cessation of all tree-felling activities for 24 hours in the contentious 400-acre land near Hyderabad Central University (HCU) in Gachibowli. This directive came during a hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Vata Foundation on Wednesday, which seeks to halt government auctions of the land and advocates for its designation as a national park to preserve its wildlife habitat.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) was violating Supreme Court directives by using bulldozers to clear trees without forming the mandated expert committee for forest land alterations. The counsel highlighted that such actions endanger numerous wildlife species inhabiting the area.
After considering arguments from both sides, the High Court issued interim orders to suspend all activities on the land for 24 hours and adjourned the hearing to the following day.
