Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court marked the 79th Independence Day on Thursday with Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh unfurling the national flag in the presence of judges, retired Supreme Court and High Court judges, registrars, lawyers, police personnel, and staff.
Extending greetings to the legal fraternity, Chief Justice Singh paid tribute to the freedom fighters who secured independence and built the institutional framework of a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic. He lauded the High Court’s legacy of eminent jurists and reaffirmed its commitment to timely and quality justice, noting that in the past year 74,768 cases were filed and 72,414 disposed of through the combined efforts of the bench and bar.
High Court highlights justice delivery, infrastructure push
The Chief Justice detailed initiatives undertaken over the year, including enhanced facilities for persons with disabilities and transgender individuals, CCTV installation in all district courts, new court complex construction with sanctioned funds, expansion of e-Sewa Kendras, translation of thousands of judgments into Telugu, introduction of an e-payment module, and accelerated digitisation of records.
He said National Lok Adalats resolved millions of cases and awarded substantial compensation, while thousands of legal literacy programmes benefited crime victims and vulnerable groups. Efforts to strengthen manpower included recruitment of civil judges, ministerial staff, and High Court personnel. Community mediation centres, de-addiction programmes, and specialised legal aid clinics were also launched.
Looking ahead, Singh said plans were in place for a new High Court campus, improved district court infrastructure, and filling judicial vacancies at all levels. Citing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of justice for the last person, he pledged to work under the Chief Justice of India’s guidance to enhance efficiency, inclusivity, and public trust in the judiciary. He concluded by urging all to reaffirm their commitment to constitutional values and a stronger nation.
