Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Monday issued a key directive on local status in MBBS admissions, instructing authorities to treat applicants as local students during the counselling process.

The order impacts admissions conducted by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), which is overseeing the medical counselling.

Registration Allowed Pending Final Order

The court ruled that students claiming local status must be considered as such for now and be allowed to complete their registration.

Until a final judgment is issued, the court directed authorities to proceed with registration based on interim recognition. The bench also reaffirmed compliance with previous orders issued last year on a similar matter.

Temporary Relief for 100 Students

This ruling grants temporary relief to at least 100 students, who now qualify for counselling under local quota provisions, subject to the court’s final decision.

KNRUHS has been asked to continue registration in line with the court’s instructions to avoid disruption of the admission process.
