Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the State government over its decision to shift Osmania General Hospital to the Goshamahal Stadium premises. The Court asked the government to file a counter with complete details of the relocation plan.
Telangana High Court seeks details on Osmania hospital shift
The order followed a public interest litigation filed by a petitioner named Ramu. He challenged the proposal to build a new hospital at the stadium and relocate Osmania General Hospital there. His counsel argued that the transfer of stadium land for hospital use was unilateral and violated urban development laws.
He also pointed out that the stadium housed a school. Using its playground for construction, he said, was inappropriate. Demolition work had already started at the site, according to the petitioner.
Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy told the Court that the government had shifted students from the stadium school to other institutions. He said the new hospital aimed to improve healthcare access for the poor.
The Bench asked for the total land under construction and the size of the remaining open space. Granting the Advocate General’s request for time, the Court adjourned the case to September 26.
