HYDERABAD: In a major legal victory for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Telangana High Court has quashed the FIR filed against him in the Janwada farmhouse drone case, bringing an end to a case that had sparked political controversy.
The case dates back to March 2020, when Revanth Reddy, then an MP from Malkajgiri, was arrested for allegedly flying a drone over a farmhouse in Janwada, which was speculated to be linked to BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). The incident was widely debated in Telangana’s political circles, with the BRS government at the time accusing Reddy of violating airspace regulations.
Following his arrest, Revanth Reddy spent 18 days in jail, after which he challenged the FIR in the High Court, arguing that the case was politically motivated. His legal team pointed out that Janwada was not a restricted area, and there was no legal basis for the charges against him.
After reviewing the arguments, the Telangana High Court ruled in favor of Revanth Reddy, dismissing the FIR lodged at Narsingi Police Station. The court’s decision is seen as a significant legal and political relief for the Chief Minister, who had long maintained that the case was fabricated to suppress opposition voices during the BRS regime.
With this verdict, Revanth Reddy has not only cleared his name legally but has also gained political mileage, with Congress leaders terming the ruling as a vindication of his fight against corruption and land encroachments.
