HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has raised concerns over the evaluation process of the Group-1 Mains examination conducted by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC), following petitions alleging irregularities and bias against Telugu-medium candidates.
Petitioners claimed that the evaluation process was flawed, particularly highlighting that candidates who wrote their answers in Telugu received lower marks compared to those who answered in English. They also questioned the allocation of examination centres and requested the court to order a re-evaluation of answer sheets.
In response, TGPSC’s counsel argued that the evaluation was conducted under expert supervision and that the allegations were based on misconceptions.
However, the court directed the commission to provide clarity on how marks were allocated to candidates who answered in Telugu. It questioned why, in other states, preference is given to candidates’ mother tongues, whereas in Telangana, English-medium candidates seem to be favoured. The court instructed TGPSC to explain the basis for mark allocation and to provide a detailed report on the evaluation process.
The hearing has been adjourned to the following day, with the court expecting a comprehensive explanation from TGPSC regarding the alleged discrepancies in the evaluation process.
