Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday ordered the State government to explain the recent food poisoning incident at a government-run Gurukul in Nagarkurnool district. Over a hundred students reportedly fell ill.
Telangana High Court demands report on Gurukul food poisoning
A Bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin gave the order while hearing a public interest litigation filed in 2023. The case concerns repeated food poisoning incidents in government Gurukul institutions under various State departments.
Earlier, the Court had directed strict enforcement of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (2018) guidelines to ensure students get clean and nutritious food.
Advocate Chikkudu Prabhakar, representing the petitioner, applied to the latest incident. He said 111 students at Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Gurukul School in Uyyalawada, Nagarkurnool, fell ill after eating contaminated food. He sought urgent directions for remedial measures and accountability.
After hearing arguments, the Bench told the State to submit a detailed report on the incident and the action taken. The Court will hear the matter again on September 3.
