Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday barred the state government from acting on the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission’s report on the Kaleshwaram project until October 7.
The bench heard petitions from BRS president and former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and party MLA T. Harish Rao. Both leaders sought protection, arguing that the inquiry had ignored safeguards under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952.
AG confirms CBI probe
Advocate General B.S. Prasad told the court that the government had already handed the Kaleshwaram case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He said the CBI probe would proceed independently of the Ghose Commission’s report.
Counsels for KCR and Harish Rao argued that the state might use the report to initiate action against them.
Case adjourned to October 7
After hearing both sides, the bench adjourned the petitions to October 7, after the court vacation. It directed that no action be taken based on the report until then.
Commission report raises stakes
The Ghose Commission, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice P.C. Ghose, recently submitted its report on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. It blamed the previous BRS government for major lapses in planning and execution.
With the case now under CBI probe, political stakes have intensified. The investigation is expected to scrutinise key decisions made during KCR’s tenure.
