Hyderabad: The Telangana Prisons and Correctional Services Department on Monday welcomed contingents from 21 states and three Union Territories ahead of the All India Prison Duty Meet – 2025. The national event begins Tuesday at the RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy.
Telangana takes over hosting mantle
The three-day event, scheduled from September 9 to 11, is being organized under the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs. Director General of Prisons Dr. Soumya Mishra, IPS, led the welcoming ceremony. She distributed specially prepared kits to participants, which included a wooden Charminar replica made by prison inmates to showcase Telangana’s heritage.
Dr. Mishra received the BPR&D flag from Assistant Director K.K. Meena and the hosting flag from the Gujarat contingent, formally marking Telangana’s role as the new host.
Coordination meeting with participating states
Later, Dr. Mishra chaired a review meeting with team managers, leaders, and nodal officers. She thanked prison chiefs for deputing their teams and expressed gratitude to BPR&D for entrusting Telangana with hosting duties. she explained competition rules and emphasized discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Senior officials attend ceremony
IGs and DIGs of Prisons from Telangana and other states, along with BPR&D officials, attended the ceremony. Team leaders praised Telangana’s arrangements for accommodation, logistics, and infrastructure at the academy.
National event promoting prison professionalism
The All India Prison Duty Meet, held annually under BPR&D guidance, combines sports, drills, and skill-based contests to sharpen fitness and professional standards among prison staff. The 2025 edition aims to boost collaboration across states and highlight the dedication of prison forces nationwide.
The Telangana Prisons Department confirmed that all preparations are complete for the event, which will run from September 9 to 11 at the academy.
