Hyderabad: Telangana Government has increased the number of beneficiaries under two major foreign education schemes — the Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi and the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Overseas Vidya Nidhi. With this expansion, the number of students able to pursue higher studies abroad will rise by nearly 130 per cent.
Telangana increases overseas education slots for BC, SC, and ST students
Previously, a total of 610 students benefited from these schemes each year. Now, the government will support 1,400 students annually. The move is aimed at enabling more BC, SC, and ST students to access quality international education and global exposure.
Major rise in BC and EBC student quota
Under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Overseas Vidya Nidhi, the number of BC and EBC beneficiaries has doubled. Earlier, only 300 BC category students were eligible. The government has now raised that number to 700, including 500 BC and 200 EBC students.
Officials said that BC–C and BC–E category students already numbered around 500 under the scheme. With the new addition, a total of 1,000 BC students will now receive support to study abroad, marking a 133 per cent rise in their representation.
